This report presents a user's manual for a computer program called STAR (Shell Transient Asymmetric Response), which was developed for the two-dimensional nonlinear transient response analysis of arbitrary shells. The program is based on Kempner's shell equations, which include nonlinear geometric terms, and on a set of constitutive equations for a temperature-dependent, work-hardening material. The partial differential equations of motion have been reduced to a set of time-dependent ordinary differential equations by use of two-dimensional finite difference approximations for derivatives with respect to the shell's middle surface coordinates. An explicit numerical integration method is employed for the solution of the ordinary equations. The program is currently operational for single-layered conical and cylindrical shells (or panels) with arbitrary, nonhomogeneous, and time-dependent boundary conditions. (Author).
